About the Mural...

After realizing the potential for a large scale mural on the East facing wall of Bank of the Sierra's Corporate Headquarters in Porterville, California, nationally recognized local artist Steven Louis Ball was commissioned to paint a Giant Sequoia grove on this massive canvas. At approximately 5,600 square feet, it is believed to be the largest mural in Central California, and one of the largest in the state.

The mural was started in mid-October 2012, and weather permitting, is scheduled for completion around year-end.

Steven is no stranger to Sierra related murals, and has a number of other nearby murals to his name. The design is original, based on current and vintage images of actual Giant Sequoia trees of the nearby Sierra mountain groves.

MURAL DEDICATION

For the past two months, artist Steven Louis Ball created a life-size giant sequoia grove incorporating the fallen Wawona Tree, wildlife and also hidden mules! Requiring 80 gallons of paint, the 5,600 square foot mural is the largest in Tulare County and possibly the Central Valley.  We were proud to present this mural to our community and customers.

PROJECT COMPLETE

With winter approaching, it was a race against time while battling the elements.  Through it all, the mural was completed with spectacular results. Can you find a bear and mules?

BEAUTY IN THE DETAILS

After the trunk details, adding foliage compliments what will become a complete sequoia.

Re-scheduling building air systems gave Steven the ability to paint individual air duct panels.  Beauty is in the details.

ANOTHER TREE IS BORN

Where the tree line breaks, another tree is born.  The majestic giant will soon take it's final form.

TREE DETAILS

In only a few days, Steven was able to add the Burnt Sienna color in a few of the Giant Sequoia tree areas.

The second tree from the left has much of it's final coloring. Notice: the lighting on the trees will be coming in from the right.
